South Ken Culture Quarter

A new digital home for London’s cultural epicentre

When long-term client Discover South Kensington told us they were rebranding in late 2025, we were genuinely excited. The project was aimed at creating a clearer, more engaging identity that better reflects what the area is known for as well as a sense of place.
It would involve building a digital space that could do the new identity justice and it felt like exactly the right next step for them.

The result is a bold, intuitive platform that's genuinely enjoyable to explore: it’s fresh, clean, and full of things to discover.

The Brief

The new brand introduced striking typography, a bold, heritage colour palette, and a fresh sense of identity. The website needed to reflect this. That meant:

  • A design with a striking first impression from the moment you land
  • Showcasing a wide range of events and institutions in a clear format
  • Enabling navigation which allows for ease in discovery of 'what's on'
  • Balancing engaging visuals with content to allow for easy navigation
  • Encouraging further exploration of the site

At its core, the challenge was to design and develop a platform that feels as dynamic and culturally diverse as the Quarter itself.

The Design

Leading with identity

The rebrand had a clear visual voice and we didn't want the site to soften it.

We placed the South Ken Culture Quarter name and identity front and centre of the site to establish immediate recognition of the organisation.

Designing for discovery

We wanted the site to allow for discovery, opening up the range of experiences the area has to offer. We built navigation to encourage curiousity with:

  • What’s On current and upcoming events
  • Things To Do within the Quarter
  • Curated Trails around the area
  • Learn more about Our Members

The consistent use of the new brand icons to help guide users discover the content, creating a sense of momentum.

Clarity through hierarchy

With a wide breadth of events taking place in the area of South Ken Culture Quarter, we structured the experience to prioritise:

  • Key events and highlights
  • Clear categorisation of content
  • Scannable layouts for quick decision-making

This ensures users can quickly find what they need, while still being drawn into deeper exploration of the site.

Accessibility by design

Accessibility is a fundamental consideration in every digital experience we create, shaping decisions from initial concept through to delivery.

For the South Ken Culture Quarter relaunch, we placed a strong emphasis on improving accessibility across the site, ensuring content is usable, readable, and navigable for all audiences.

The result is a significantly more accessible and inclusive site than previous, whilst maintaining best practice standards and vibrant identity of the new brand.

The Implementation

The South Ken Culture Quarter website is built on our in-house Content Management System (CMS), designed to adapt to the specific needs of each client. This flexible platform allows us to tailor the functionality to create a bespoke site.

The re-launched site features a series of tailored enhancements and integrations:

Advanced events management

The CMS has extended custom features to support a wide variety of event types, including both one-off and recurring listings. This ensures events are structured, displayed, and maintained in a clear and user-friendly way, improving both accuracy and discoverability.

Email and marketing integration
To strengthen the client’s direct communication channels, there is a bespoke Mailchimp integration with the CMS. This allows for seamless coordination of email campaigns, making it easier to deliver relevant updates to subscribers.

Optimised subscriber experience
The CMS features a bespoke approach to subscriber management, simplifying sign-up journeys for users while giving the client greater control over audience data. This supports the growth of a more engaged and responsive community.

Interactive ‘Trails’ feature
A key feature of the platform is the custom-built ‘Trails’ section, offering curated walking routes through South Kensington. Users can explore interactive maps and download guides, encouraging deeper engagement with the area’s cultural and educational destinations.

Together, these customised enhancements ensure the platform is both tailored to the needs of South Ken Culture Quarter and easy to manage, providing a scalable foundation that showcases the area’s rich program.

The Outcome

We are delighted to announce the new website launched on time and on budget in May 2026. More importantly, it has fulfilled the brief for the re-branding of the area, delivering a site which successfully:

  • Brings the new brand to life digitally
  • Encourages exploration and discovery of the area
  • Showcases events in a clear and accessible format
  • Positions the South Ken Culture Quarter as a cohesive cultural destination

South Ken Culture Quarter now has a digital home that matches its ambition, and a site that will grow with them.

"When we first began this project with Ixxy, I was concerned about how far my budget would stretch and our ambitious time frames - but straight away, I knew I was in good hands with an experienced team who, with regular weekly meetings with me, were able to deliver an excellent website on budget and on time that has exceeded my expectations. The team were fantastic during the run up to the launch and were on hand to pick up any last-minute fixes - it meant that everything ran smoothly as we switched over to our new website. We have had so many compliments since - I am immensely proud of what we have created, and it gives me such pleasure to say 'visit southkenculturequarter.com'!"
